Former Bayern Munich chairman Uli Hoeness believes there are defenders who could leave the club in the coming weeks amid reports Manchester United are interest in signing Matthijs de Ligt.

United have been one of the busiest sides in the summer, having already sign new players Joshua Zirkzee and Leni Yoro.

Erik ten Hag is keen to reunite with De Ligt and made public United’s interest in the centre-back ahead of Friday’s pre-season win over Rangers.

Hoeness has spoken out about United’s interest but admitted he would be happy to see De Ligt remain with the Bundesliga giants.

De Ligt was previously report to have agree personal terms with United, but there is currently no agreement between the two clubs.

Hoeness believes De Ligt could be on the verge of joining the 13-time Premier League champions this summer, Promotion ufabet noting that the Dutchman shares the same nationality as Ten Hag.

He also spoke about the future of Dayot Upamecano, who has just two years left on his contract at the Allianz Arena.

“It is possible that the defender will still leave, De Ligt is Dutch, the Manchester United coach is Dutch, but I would not have a problem with him staying,” he told German journalist.

“Personally, I would not sell Upamecano,” Hoeness added.
