Athletic Bilbao are not looking for a replacement for first-choice goalkeeper Unai Simon, it was report on Sunday.
Simon played a key role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph สมัคร ufabet, but the promising goalkeeper has now undergone wrist surgery and will miss the start of the 2024/25 season for Athletic Bilbao.
However, Spanish media reported that Simon could be out until the end of 2024 if his wrist condition does not improve and complications arise, leading to reports that the Basque club may be looking for reinforcements in the goalkeeper position.
However, Bilbao head coach Ernesto Valverde has hinted that he and the club will not sign a new goalkeeper despite the current problems in the position.
“We have two goalkeepers who are injury and we will try to recover them as quickly as possible.
“We have to work with the players we have now and hopefully we can have Julen (Arrizabalaga) back soon.”
Agirrezabala made four La Liga appearances for the Basque side last season, as cover for Simon, but the 23-year-old suffered a back fracture in training last week.
He could be out until September with youth team duo Alex Padilla and Oier Gastesi splitting preseason action between them.
Bilbao are expect to give youngsters Alex Padilla and Oier Goutesi a chance to prove themselves, while Julen is likely to return in September.
